Urgent Alert: Wyoming SF 104
SF 104 has been stopped - but it may be revived.SF 104 original action alert.
Stopped
http://www.vaclib.org/chapter/wyhome.htmUpdate on WY bill - SF 104 Meningococcal Vaccination Feb. 2, 2011 Update - SF 104 Meningococcal Vaccination bill in WY State Legislature Thank you so much for stopping this mandated vaccine. However, it still could be revived. If you have contacted all of the Wyoming State Senators already, that's great. Like Dawn Richardson (of NVIC Advocacy.org ) told me, if you have a scorpion, you don't just whack it once and think it's not going to revive. Go ahead and let the state senators know how you feel about it. What I have done is to e-mail the state senators who voted in favor of mandating the vaccine and politely let them know how our group feels about it. Then, I e-mailed the ones who voted against the mandate, thanking them. Link to article about the defeat of this bill: http://thewyonews.net/2011/02/02/wyoming-senate-kills-mandatory-meningitis-vaccine-on-cost/ What happened yesterday (Feb. 1, 2011) and today (Feb. 2, 2011): Yesterday the Appropriation's Committee voted on SF 104. They "Recommended Do Not Pass" with four votes from people who said they didn't want it to pass and one vote from a man (Senator Hastert) who wanted it to pass. http://legisweb.state.wy.us/2011/SessionVotes/VoteList.aspx?ID=SF0104&Title=Meningococcal+vaccination. Then, today at noon, the whole Wyoming Senate voted. The results were great! Here are the results of the "Committee of the Whole" vote in the Wyoming Senate today, Feb. 2, 2011: Session Votes The votes listed here are unofficial and are subject to change by the House and Senate when checked at the end of the day.
For info on how to find the above information yourself, see my Footnote #1 near the bottom of this message. Here are the details of the vote. Vote Detail Bill Number: SF0104-Meningococcal vaccination. Action: S Failed CoW; Indef Postponed Vote Recorded: 2/2/2011 12:00:14 PM Vote ID: 237 Ayes: Senator(s): Barnard, Esquibel, F., Hastert, Hicks, Landen, Martin, Schiffer, Scott Nays: Senator(s): Anderson, Bebout, Burns, Case, Christensen, Coe, Cooper, Dockstader, Driskill, Emerich, Geis, Hines, Jennings, Johnson, Meier, Nicholas P, Nutting, Perkins, Peterson, Ross, Rothfuss, Von Flatern Excused: Absent: Conflict: Total: Ayes: 8 Nays: 22 Excused: 0 Absent: 0 Conflict: 0 To find the above Vote Detail yourself, go to Footnote #2 in my message below. The explanation http://legisweb.state.wy.us/lsoweb/session/BillStatusExplain.aspx of the reports tells what "S Failed CoW" and "Indef Postponed" mean: "The bill was considered in Committee of the Whole in the Senate but failed to pass Committee of the Whole .... The bill was subsequently 'indefinitely postponed' which means it will not be considered further this session." This is so encouraging. Like Dawn Richardson, of NVIC Advocacy.org http://nvicadvocacy.org/members/Home.aspx says, if the legislators are given the truth, they know how to vote! However... At the end of this page on the WY state legislature's web site http://legisweb.state.wy.us/lsoweb/session/BillStatusExplain.aspx it indicates there might be some extraordinary action that might change the current status of the bill. I called the state legislature and asked a woman who answered the phone what that might be, that would change the status to active again. She didn't know and had to ask someone. When she got back to me, she said that I should check it again this evening and if it is still the same, it is not going to be revived. She didn't explain what special thing might happen to revive the bill. So, I will keep checking to make sure it hasn't changed. It is now after 9 pm and it still is the same. Click on it. This should give you today's Feb. 2 vote. http://legisweb.state.wy.us/2011/SessionVotes/VoteList.aspx?ID=SF0104&Title=Meningococcal+vaccination. is the link that sometimes works, but sometimes doesn't. That's why I gave you step-by-step instructions for finding it yourself. Sometimes that link goes to the older votes, rather than today's Feb. 2 vote. You click on "View Vote Detail" and you will find the info I gave in the "Vote Detail" section above in my e-mail. http://legisweb.state.wy.us/2011/SessionVotes/VoteDetail.aspx?ID=237&Title=Meningococcal+vaccination. is the link that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Original bill before being stopped
January 31, 2011A bill is working it's way through the Wyoming legislature that would require yet another vaccine to be added to the already over-crowded vaccine schedule. This is a perfect example of why it's so important that you register at the NVIC Advocacy web site. The national web site tells people how to easily contact their legislators about bills regarding vaccination. Please go to http://nvicadvocacy.org/members/Home.aspx and register (a simple process). This is a site affiliated with the National Vaccine Information Center, a very reputable group that urges safe vaccination and informed vaccine choice. After you have registered on the home page, you can click on the Wyoming information that has to do with mandatory meningococcal meningitis vaccination (in two sections: "Action Needed Now" and "Legislation to Watch"). Jacque Jones has worked hard on explaining why the meningitis vaccine should not be made mandatory. You can read what she has written in those two sections. The second section "Legislation to Watch" is just a short section that tells you briefly the action that is needed on the bill. It mainly refers you to the first section: "Action Needed Now." Jacque has included a few talking points that you can mention in your message to the legislators. SF 104 has been in a committee already and was voted on, where it was recommended that it be passed. We OPPOSE this bill, since the vaccine should not be mandated. SF 104 is in the Appropriations Committee right now, Monday, Jan. 31. http://legisweb.state.wy.us/LegislatorSummary/CommitteeMembers.aspx?strCommitteeID=02&Year=2010 is the link to the legislators in the Appropriations Committee. Right now, we should e-mail or call the people on that committee, asking them to please vote No on SF 104 "Meningococcal Vaccination." You also should e-mail the state representative and the state senator who represent the area where you live. In her alert, in the "Action Needed Now" section, Jacque tells you how to contact your own state legislators. Thanks so much for your efforts to stop this vaccine mandate in Wyoming.
